roses

It's been awhile. Back at it again. I have been painting my roses outline and seem to have found what background to support them with. I have been playing with washes and glazes, and learning how they react on canvas and wood panels.

This is my current working area, I have stolen my son's ikea table and had been working on it. I have also been working out in the yard since the weather has gotten warm.

These are the roses I have been working on. The obsession came when I saw a rose bush on the Sunshine Coast, BC in 2005. Since then, I had been doodling them obsessively. I didn't know where it would take me, but knew that I just had to draw them. It became therapeutic at times. It wasn't until this year that I finally freed myself from some artistic block and took the pencil outlines to the different level.

Spray Can

Been awhile. Life's surprises slowed down the creative process. Now getting back to it. Interest in spray can as a medium, or to mix it into with painting. Want to get my hands dirty again to make some tangible art.

a drawing or two a day

So I have been trying to post a drawing a day, these are mostly from old sketches in my sketch book. They were only pencil drawings waiting to be worked on and coloured in. I am not sure if these daily illustrations posting really do much except for keeping me drawing and working on my illustrations. I also post them on myartplot, I wonder if all these spot illustrations posted are too random and ungrouped for potential clients to view.

Last night I also thought about making digital illustrations for giclee production and put it on myartplot site print to order. I looked for a printer online but haven't found one close by yet.

Today I have two illy posts.

The cropped roses was a scanner mistake but I used it anyway, it looks very graphic like it is waiting for type to be places in the blank green area. The sprout was another one of those doodles I have on plants.

The Seed

The Seed

How does it know,
this little seed,
if it is to grow
to a flower or weed,

if it is to be
a vine or shoot,
or grow to a tree
with a long deep root?

A seed is so small
where do you suppose
it stores up all
of the things it knows

Mushroom

I was trying to explain to a good friend of mine why I have decided to produce illustrations in Photoshop instead of my longtime favoured program illustrator. I tried to explain my process of how to achieve that subtractive printmaking look like in lino/ woodcut or other plate prints. Here is an example, a picture should paint a thousand words.

Organisation online

I cannot believe that it is already midnight. I have been trying to get to bed by 11pm with very little luck and tonight is a perfect example.

It's been a few days since I have blogged any progress.

Today, I realised that I have quite a few online exposures set up where I can showcase my art. My personal site. www.astridfox.com, myartspace.com, myartplot.com, here on blogger and a few more  that I have not had time to load anything up. So do I try to streamline  and delete some of them so I can keep them up to date? I decided that since I like something about each one of them and having more exposure is better, I will dedicate each site to a different aspect of my artistic journey. I will try to keep my personal site updated with current shows I am involved in and perhaps link some of the other sites to it. I will upload my Fine Art work to myartspace as their layout look very polished and makes me feel like my work is displayed on the white walls of a gallery. Myartplot will be for my illustrations and some of my creative process, I will post rough sketches and blog about some stuff; like my facebook for my art. And here will be my diary/ journal like postings. I think blogging here is more for myself then a presentation of my work. Blogging here keeps me on track and lets me have a outlet.

I am glad that I found some illustrations of cats and dogs on my hard drive. There must have been a problem with them not cataloging properly. So I will post those up on myartplot.
